Hemp vs. CBD: What’s the Difference?

by Joe //

If you don't know too much about hemp or CBD, it may be hard to tell the difference. Here is a guide to hemp vs. CBD and how to know the difference.

Let’s talk cannabidiol (CBD) and hemp. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have realized the public interest in CBD and hemp is increasing even faster than American states are legalizing cannabis.

But, with the increase in available products, the world of marijuana can be tricky to navigate. Do you know the differences between THC and CBD; Indica and Sativa; hemp and marijuana?

Before buying a range of products that don’t really match your needs, learn exactly what you need so that you can shop accordingly! Read on, for the low down on hemp vs CBD.

Hemp vs CBD: What Are the Differences?

CBD is one of the phytochemicals found in Cannabis sativa (otherwise known as, weed or marijuana). It is non-intoxicating and studies have shown it can help with chronic pain, nausea, addiction, anxiety, and depression.

As it is non-intoxicating, CBD is widely available, including places where marijuana is illegal. This is because it has low levels of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that gets you ‘high’.

Hemp is a versatile type of Cannabis sativa, it is used industrially to make fabrics and food. Hemp does contain very low levels of THC but it can be processed to create a euphoric effect.

But What’s the Link Between CBD and Hemp?

Generally, hemp plants are used to make CBD products. This is because hemp plants contain higher levels of CBD and lower levels of THC than Cannabis plants. By using hemp-derived CBD, people can experience the benefits of CBD without the psychoactive effects caused by THC.

Hemp-based CBD oils are safe and legal, and as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC, are FDA approved. Even in high doses, it won’t make you high. However, if you’re seeking physical benefits as well as a bonus ‘high’, it’s worth learning about Cannabis CBD.

Cannabis-derived CBD oils are made from Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa, usually, these strains contain higher levels of THC than hemp plants.

Cannabis-derived CBD products usually contain more than the allowed 0.3% THC of hemp oils and are subject to the same state laws as marijuana. Cannabis CBD oils can be used to manage conditions such as chronic pain but are often only available with a medical marijuana card.

Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil: What Are the Main Differences?

Basically, hemp oils are legal and won’t get you high. CBD oils can exceed the upper limit of allowed THC, making them illegal or restricted in many states and they may get you high. Have a think about what works for you (as well as what is legal in your state) and shop here to find your ultimate CBD and hemp-based products.
